Cutting and Gluing Activities for Kindergarten | Free Fine Motor Practice
Looking for cutting and gluing activities for kindergarten that actually build fine motor skills? Scissor skills and glue stick control don’t come naturally to little hands, they take real practice! This free activity gives children a simple, low-prep way to build both skills at the same time.
How It Works
Divide each cutting practice page along the solid lines into six pieces. Each child gets 1/6 of a cutting page in one of three line types:
- Straight lines (easiest starting point)
- Curved lines (a step up in control)
- Zigzag lines (the biggest challenge)
They practice cutting along the lines and collect their pieces in a container. Then they get a 6″ square of white paper and a glue stick, and they’re ready for the second half of the activity: gluing!

This part is where the real fun happens. Some children glue their pieces down randomly, focusing purely on getting the hang of the glue stick. Others turn it into a little picture, like a sunset or a landscape. Both are wonderful! The goal here isn’t a “correct” result, it’s building the motor control and confidence to use a glue stick independently

- Use it as quiet morning work or an early finisher task
- Set it up as a fine motor center for independent practice
- Pull a small group and coach scissor grip up close
- Start children on straight lines first, and save zigzags for those ready for more challenge
